First, Dr. Wilmon A. Christian, III discusses his research on the experiences of Black staff at colleges and universities.Then, Dr. Toni Jeanine Harris shares her research on teacher burnout. We talk about workplace equity, the toxicity of grind culture, campus climate, and burnout.

Dr. Wilmon A. Christian, IIII

Wilmon A. Christian III is the Director of PRISM and the National Equity Network at the University of Southern California Race and Equity Center. His career in higher education has included various roles, spanning areas such as student access and success, project management and administration, and racial diversity. A practitioner, Wilmon’s work is praxis-focused, aiming to improve higher education outcomes, environments, and conditions for people of color through equitable practices. His research is focused on racial equity in higher education workplaces, with a specific interest in examining conditions enabling success for people of color in the higher education workforce. He holds degrees from Hampton University, an HBCU, and the Pennsylvania State University. He is completed his doctoral work at the Rossier School of Education at USC.

Dr. Toni Jeanine Harris

Dr. Toni has been an urban school educator for grades 6-12 for 15 years. She is a native of South Central Los Angeles, CA and has a true passion for improving education for Black and Latinx students.

Dr. Toni is a first generation college student and the first in her family to receive a doctoral degree. She completed her doctorate in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Educational Psychology from the University of Southern California. She also has two Master’s degrees, one in Education Administration and one in Teaching, as well as her Bachelor’s Degree—all from Stanford University.
